Social Networking and Stabilization

I cannot believe that I have the abilities through social networking in my own home, and I am able to take it with me wherever I may go. I can keep up with friends and families as well as keep them updated with my life and the things that are going on with me. I find it equally as fascinating what inspires others as well as the happenings in our world that gets people talking. Social Media is a way to facilitate debates and conversations with many people from all over the world.

Because of social media I have been able to get in contact with cousins that I have not seen in years, reunite with old friends from high school that I have lost contact with. It has also been a tool to help me with school projects as I am easily able to use it as a network tool to gain information from many people at once and discover new ideas and others perspectives on many social and government issues.

Some things however, on social media I would prefer not to see, or not to be reminded of, but there are things like the even below that make me grateful for what I have now.

One of the most influential tools that social media provides us with as ways we can come together as a community to support one another. Today as I scroll through my friends comments regarding the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, I am reminded how influential King was to us as a people. Social media reminds us of history making events and brings us new and old information. Dixie State University- Black Student Union is hosting an event in memory of Martin Luther King Jr.
Bryan K. Hotchkins, who serves as a postdoctoral research associate in the University of Utah’s Political Science Department. Hotchkins scheduled for lecture on Jan. 20, 2015, at Dixie State University in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. | Hotchkins' photo courtesy of Dixie State University, composite by St. George News

This event will provide many positive experiences for the students at Dixie State University and the St. George community. Social media has an amazing way of reaching so many people that no other tool can. It is an amazing tool.

Dear, Mom

August 2nd, 2003, My life changed forever. I lost my mother that day. It has been a constant struggle since then. I talked to her about everything. We talked on the phone daily and shared everything. When she passed, a part of me went with her. However, at the same time another part of me came alive, and I feel that I needed to start my life in a way that she would have if she had lived. My mother was sick most of my childhood, so there were many things she was unable to do. I feel that I need to carry on in her stead. This blog is dedicated to her. It is a journal of my journey and it shares with her and others my joys, my inspirations and my experiences as I finish my last year at Dixie State. So many wonderful things that have happened since I started and I plan to continue to make amazing changes and live life to the fullest. I want to share things that make my life feel more complete, and maybe a way that I can inspire others to not let life's challenges stop them from making their life amazing.
